Bringing the highest standards in water quality

The quality of the water used for cleaning our instruments and equipment is essential for best practice results.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment units are utilised for the removal of contaminants from the water. It is considered to be a desalination and demineralisation process which is essential for enhanced cleanliness of our sterilisers in our CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department).

As you would expect, there are stringent standards for water quality that hospitals must abide by, which are captured in the AS/NZS 4187:2014 Standards. This has been further enhanced with AS5369:2023 which clearly sends a message to facilities that clean water is more than a ‘nice to have’.

Much like the calcium build up seen in domestic irons, water that has not been treated in our CSSD sterilisers yields a residue by-product that can cause damage to units and impact the quality of our sterilisers.

Finally, after many years of waiting, NECH ordered our locally produced RO unit in 2023 with the installation at the beginning of 2024. With a brand new steriliser ordered, it is with much excitement that our RO unit is now operational and supporting our hospital and surgical services utilise the best in technology to ensure our sterilising and cleaning processes are reaching new heights.
