Coming to Hospital
On the day of your admission, please report to Admissions Desk, located on the Ground floor of the Hospital.
You will be greeted by one of our friendly staff who take you through the admission process. You will then be directed to the appropriate area for your procedure.
We also ask that you please:
- Bathe or shower before you arrive
- Wear loose comfortable clothing and shoes
- Don’t use excessive chemicals, for example perfume, makeup, nail polish, hair spray, body lotion or deodorant
- Do not smoke or drink alcohol in the 24 hours prior to your surgery
- Remove all jewellery, including any body piercings
- Have completed any pre-surgery requirements as requested by your treating doctor, for example skin or bowel preparation
What to bring on admission day
Please bring only what is required for your stay and leave all valuables at home. Avoid bringing unnecessary personal or valuable belongings including jewellery or large amounts of cash.
You should only bring the credit card (or cash) required to settle your outstanding account. You may want a small amount of cash to cover incidentals such as snacks or coffee from our vending machines.
We are unable to accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to, personal property kept by patients, and we do not provide a safe or storage facilities.
Below is a guide of items to bring to hospital:
Personal documents
If applicable, please bring the following:
- Medicare card
- Any pension or concession cards
- Private health fund details
- Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
- Safety Net Card
- DVA Repatriation Card
- Authority to Admit letter from DVA or WorkCover
- Credit card for payment
- Copy of your Power of Attorney or Advanced Health Directive
Clothing
- Loose, comfortable clothing
- Sleepwear/pyjamas, dressing down and slippers (overnight stays only)
Medication
An up-to-date list of current medications from your GP or pharmacist.
All your current medications and prescribed dosage (including insulin, supplements and alternative medications) with you in the original packaging.
Please note, medications must be in the original packaging with your name in order for us to be able to administer them to you in hospital (please do not bring Webster packs or dosette boxes).
Personal toiletries
Any personal toiletries you may need for your stay, for example:
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Hairbrush
- Body wash
Personal aids and other items
Please ensure all personal items are clearly labelled with your name.
- CPAP or medical device for sleep apnoea (surgical patients only, excluding cataracts)
- Glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids (and safe storage case)
- Physical aids such as crutches/walking aids
- Book, magazine or light reading material (newspapers are available)
- Phone charger
Medical documents
If applicable, please bring the following:
- X-rays or imaging as requested by your surgeon
