Fees and Charges

Patients are responsible for the payment of their hospital account

Medicare does not cover any private hospital charges but does contribute to medical specialist fees. Invoices for specialist fees are separate to your hospital account.

We accept payment via Direct Debit (EFTPOS) and major credit cards (excluding Diners and AMEX). Personal cheques will not be accepted.

For all payment related queries, please call our Reception team on (08) 8366 8111 between 7.00am and 7.00pm week days.

NECH has negotiated with major health funds to ensure hospital charges are paid for by the relevant fund except where you have made a particular personal choice in your level of cover e.g. “excess” payments.

Prior to your admission, we recommend you contact your private health insurer to check whether the reason for admission, including any surgery, is covered under your current health insurance policy; and are there any additional costs you should expect, such as an excess or co-payment.

Any amount outstanding such as an excess or co-payment is payable prior to your admission date or on admission.

If you are not privately insured, you are required to pay the estimated cost of hospitalisation no later than 72 hours prior to your admission. Our Accounts Department can inform patients of estimated costs. All patients are admitted on the understanding that they are personally liable for their own HOSPITAL ACCOUNTS. You must contact the out-patient accounts department on (08) 8366 8111 (between the hours of 9.00am – 4.30pm) for an estimate of fees and charges prior to your admission date.

All estimates provided by NECH are based on item numbers and length of stay as indicated by your doctor prior to admission. Please note that in the event of unforeseen complications or variations from the proposed treatments, costs may vary, and patients are responsible for the full cost of providing the service, even when this is varied from the original estimated cost/quote.

You may also receive separate accounts for the following areas:

  • Pharmacy (non admission related drugs)
  • Pathology
  • Radiology
  • Surgeon or assistant surgeon
  • Anaesthetist
